Great song. A bit cheeky. John Prine deserves a wider audience. Iris DeMent, well... she's got one of those unique voices. There's a bit of Stevie Nicks and Emmylou Harris in there. Love her. It's a shame most people have never even heard of them. See below for some other gems.
Wow. Lots of fantastic songs this week. Made a bit of a dent in my wallet, but that's the life of a crack music addict. Michael Kiwanuka reminds of Ray Lamontagne. Soulful voice. Likewise, Father John Misty's "Only Son of the Ladiesman" reminds me of Albert Cross' "Low Man." Excellent references. I love the weird instrumentation in Tom Lark's "All Night Long." I have no idea what it is, but sounds cool. Anyway... these are a few of my favorites. Hope you enjoy.
Yeah yeah... I know. It's a ton of music. Sorry... making up for lost time. To refresh your memory, I sit my ass down each Tuesday and sift through all the new releases on iTunes (and I mean... ALL the new releases - every single genre) and scour all the music sites. Then, each Friday, I do a "grab bag" of what I liked best and post to the site. Since I've been gone for awhile, I'm going back a month or so for this one. Lots of great music. So relax... and enjoy.
Now... in addition to the tracks above, I also liked "Flower Anthem" by Washed Out, "Syndicate" by Elegant Animals", "Wild Woman" by French Kissing, "Expand" by Pig & Dan, "California" by Delta Spirit (love the Beach Boys-like chorus), "Candy" by The Men (reminds me of Paul Westerberg), "Electric Tookie" by People Under the Stairs, "Stripper" by Secret Music, "India Song" by Youn Sun Nah (gorgeous), the new Perfume Genius, and Usher's "Climax."
Wow. So beautiful. You're in for a treat. Welcome to the wonderful world of the Take Away Shows. Artists filmed giving live performances. Single take. Single camera. Music site La Blogotheque and filmmaker Vincent Moon teamed up to create this amazing series. Whether it's My Brightest Diamond (the first clip) singing a lullaby at a Berlin hotel bar or Lianne La Havas (second clip) singing as she walks around the streets of Paris, I can't get enough of this stuff. They're some of the best live performances you'll ever see. Superbly shot. Gorgeous.
