Friday Grab Bag of New Music

Heard some good stuff this week.  Slap the headphones on and spank that music monkey.

Foxes' "Youth" is awesome.  "Mira" is lovely.  "Hurricane" sounds familiar, but good.  Now... I know I shouldn't like the Kitty Pryde track, but I do.  Can't help it.  She's not a star.  There's no studio behind her.  She's a 16-year-old kid who namechecks Frank Ocean, Lesley Gore and loves drunk dials.  Yeah... she's just fucking around, but it's a good song with a killer hook.  I have no clue what that background track is that's been slowed down on a loop, but I dig it.

Friday Grab Bag of New Music

Wow.  Lots of fantastic songs this week.  Made a bit of a dent in my wallet, but that's the life of a crack music addict. Michael Kiwanuka reminds of Ray Lamontagne. Soulful voice.  Likewise, Father John Misty's "Only Son of the Ladiesman" reminds me of Albert Cross' "Low Man." Excellent references.  I love the weird instrumentation in Tom Lark's "All Night Long."  I have no idea what it is, but sounds cool.  Anyway... these are a few of my favorites.  Hope you enjoy.

Friday Grab Bag of New Music

Heard some good music this week.  The first track, "Du Soleil Plein Les Yeux", is beautiful.  I have no idea what they're saying, but it's nice.  The second song, "Narry", has the kind of hard-driving, looping House beat that I dig.  As for the last one, it came down to which ASAP Rocky track to include.  His mixtape debut is awesome.  The guy reminds me of a cross between Kid Cudi, Lil Wayne and Salem.  Also check out Rocky's "Bass", "Get Lit", and "Demons."  All good.  Let's see... what else.  Jack Johnson's got a new song coming out, "In the Morning"... but I couldn't find it on YouTube.  I also really liked "Peppermint" by Loud-E (great Disco sound) and "Better Life" by Paper Route (will be a huge radio hit).  Want to just kick back and chill?  Try "A Soulful Moment" by Isotroph and/or "Road After Rain" by Chihei Hatakeyama.

Tales of the City

Coltrane, B.B. King, Marvin.  Man... this is Chicago to me.  I used to listen to these songs over and over while staring out at the city.  I don't remember what floor I lived on (54th?), but it was high up and had floor-to-ceiling views.  I remember the restaurants, the women... all of it.
