Stephin Merritt

What can I say about this guy... he's a genius.  Part misanthrope, part Brian Wilson.  Stephin Merritt has crafted some of the most delicious melodies of the past 20 years. 

Let's see... what else.  He's gay, eccentric and suffers from hyperacusis (sensitivity to noise; everything is SUPER loud to him... so much so that his concerts have to be toned down and he can't handle applause).  He's immensely prolific, funneling his songs into different projects (The Magnetic Fields being the most well known).  Sometimes he takes lead vocals and sometimes he turns the mic over to others, but a Stephin Merritt song is a bonafide eargasm.

He's a dysfunctional romantic, but you know what... no one writes better Pop songs.
