Thank You, Steve Jobs
I had planned on posting something else in today's spot. Something sarcastic. Something sophomoric. Wouldn't seem appropriate now, though. Steve Jobs stepped down from Apple on Wednesday. Oh... I'm sure the company will be fine, but it did give me a chance to read up on his life... and what a life it's been. He's one of a handful of people to have had such a profound impact on society - a real-life Willy Wonka. We all loved his gadget treats. He gave us nice devices, sure... but he also single-handedly disrupted so many industries - music and publishing being just two examples. He knew how to take a good idea and make it better. He gave us iTunes - all the media we could possibly want at the click of a button. iTunes was easy, breezy (Apple now has 225 million credit cards). He gave us the Jesus phone. He gave us Pixar. He gave us the world in our pocket. I have to admit that I teared up a little (ok, a lot)... but not because I'm sad for Apple (or Jobs as he's not dead yet). I teared up because... his life is a reminder of what is possible if we have passion and stay true to our own vision. Bravo, Sir.
"Come with me
And you'll be
In a world of
Pure imagination
Take a look
And you'll see
Into your imagination
We'll begin
With a spin
Traveling in
The world of my creation
What we'll see
Will defy
Explanation"
