Social

With the recent release of Google+, I find myself re-evaluating all "social" channels.  I have two Facebook accounts - one for friends, family, and co-workers... and one for you fine folks.  Truth is... I don't really update the former all that much as I'm creeped out by who can see what.  Facebook has lists, but it lacks the ability to preview posts like Google+.  Speaking of which... I haven't made up my mind about Google's offering yet.  Like most of their efforts, it's too "beta" for my taste.  There are brilliant people in Mountain View, but why they can't create a beautiful user experience is beyond me.  Cupertino is right down the 85, El Goog.  Go ahead and poach some Apple talent.  You need it.  I love everything Google comes up with, but I also hate it.  I love that it's free and they have some amazing tools, but my GOD they lack polish.

I'm on a tangent.  Hmm.

I'm comfortable with Facebook, but it needs to be easier to use.  I want to preview posts before making public. I want to be able to go back and edit - either for spelling errors or some morning after "HOLY CHRIST!! I said WHAT???" moment.  I want to do video chat with multiple people... so I can have a virtual orgy.  I want to be able to post WHAT I want and not fear that Facebook or Google will shut me down.  I mean... it took me FOREVER to find that donkey photo!  Geez.  Anyway... if Facebook and Google+ weren't enough, then there's Twitter and Tumblr (not to mention this blog).  There are times I question why I share anything at all.   I feel like I'm one step away from setting up a bed cam so people can watch me sleep.  It's incredibly narcissistic, of course.  We all want our lives to be the Truman Show.  Why, though?  Who cares.

Thing is... there's somewhat of a voyeuristic thrill in being able to peer into someone's life at will.  I love seeing that you got drunk last night and made an ass of yourself.   That boob pic that you just posted... THANK YOU!  Much appreciated.  It's nice to be able to check in with family... without having to check in with family.  Being the anti-social freak that I am, I get to wish someone a happy birthday without having to send a card and all that touchy, feely stuff.

So... I like having these accounts, but I wish there were just one giant hub. Then, again... who am I kidding.  I love this shit.  I'm the first person to download new apps and trial new sites.  Maybe Hangouts (the Google+ video area) can bring us all closer together.  One big bed.  Multiple cameras.  Blindfolds and velcro straps.  Nuru gel.  Hmm.  Perhaps "social" isn't so bad.

Facebook is easy, I do hate that to "edit" a post you basically have to delete it. I do that, a lot. I've heard that Google + is okay, but the terms of service for photos kind of bothers me, even though Getty Images says its "ok" it's just one more site I'd have to think twice about posting to.

Now, about this video orgy....

@Bombchell G+ has promise, but... they're all the same in the end
@Carrie Yeah... I'm getting tired of being told what I can/can't post.
