Mac Apps - iA Writer

I want to profile a few Mac apps that I love and use religiously.  First up... iA Writer from Information Architects.  When I have an idea and want to write something, I have no patience for Word or Pages - apps that take forever to open and have way too much shit.  I just want to write.  There are plenty of simple text editors out there, as well... from Apple's TextEdit to xPad, but this app was designed with the writer in mind.  I first fell in love with it on the iPad.  I was a little hesitant to buy the Mac version since it's priced at $17.99.  Ouch.  I looked at Byword (which is similar and half the cost), but after reading countless reviews and having experienced iA Writer on the iPad... I made the plunge.  It's a dream app for writers.

It has a minimalist design meant to cut out all distractions.  It launches super fast.  The text is nice and large on my 24" iMac.  The font is perfect.  Even the window size is ideal, though you can (and I do) make it full screen, when needed.  FocusMode is cool... were it highlights the line you're on and blurs everything else.  If you do a lot of writing, I definitely recommend getting it.

I like the look of it. Ever play with the latest voice recognition software for mac? I've heard there have been improvements. A dead on, accurate program with almost no errors would be the nuts, and worth every penny.

I wish they had this out when I was writing scripts. That'd have made life amazing, me thinks. Then I could have been a master playwright. *sighs for lost dreams*

@sdw Voice recognition software, no... though I am playing with voice animation.
@Carrie iA Writer isn't for scripts. If you're a hardcore screenwriter, you'd want to use Final Draft. If you write scripts just for the fun of it (and don't wish to shell out the $250 that FD costs), I'd suggest Scrivener (what I use) or even Movie Draft SE (new, slightly limited).

Yes, final cut was nice when I could use it, but I couldn't afford it for myself. So I had to use word which blew. Having the other lines fade would be awesome for someone easily distracted, like - Squirrel!!
