The Promise

This is one of my favorite unreleased Bruce songs.  It's clearly influenced by the legal battles with his ex-manager - who blocked him from the studio for a full year after Born to Run was released.  "The Promise", like many of the songs he wrote during that period, was somber and reflected the tone of a man who had given up on the romantic notion of a runaway American dream.  The clip is from a show at the Boston Music Hall in 1977.  Audio only.
