Weekend in New England

As nice as Irvine is, I don’t want to live here forever.  Maybe another few years.  Part of me thinks it would be cool to live up in San Francisco, but… I know I don’t want to live in a city again.  The older I get, the more I ache for less “noise.”  I’m tired of living in an apartment.  People stomping around upstairs.  Garbage trucks.  Landscape crews with their mowers and leaf blowers.  I’ve become increasingly noise-sensitive over the past couple of years.

I thought about Carmel or Mendocino, but too touristy... and remote.  There are some charming towns in the South, too... like Madison, GA.  Chicago's North Shore is nice.  There's really only one place, though… New England.  I lived there for awhile before my parents divorced, then visited off/on in the years that followed.  Trips to see my Dad.  My sister in Boston.  I haven’t been out in quite some time (mainly because I hate to fly), but I think it’s the most beautiful part of the country... by far.  There's just so much variety.

Where would I live?  Coastal Connecticut (Madison to Old Saybrook/Essex).  Maine (Camden).  Not sure.  I know I’d want to be on the coast.  It would have to be a "picture postcard" town.  I’m talking white picket fences, a lush town green with artsy stores.  I want a town with woods and lakes … an artists' colony by the sea.  Maybe somewhere out on the Cape (MA).

It’s the perfect setting for all seasons.  Autumn is lovely, of course, with the falling leaves.  Christmas is magical, as well.  A Norman Rockwell painting come to life.  Summer offers so many options… from lakes and rivers to the beautiful islands just offshore.  To see the real New England, though, you need to leave Boston.  Check out the small towns.  Take a ferry to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard – two gorgeous islands.  Check out Newport and take the ferry out to Block Island (RI); it’s like a mini Ireland with its cliffs and rolling hills.

Maybe in a few years... when I'm married.

Hyannis is quite picturesque... All things Cape Cod = amazeballz. New England is definitely an ideal place to settle.
