Cupcake

While we're on the subject of labels, I wrote this awhile back (cleaning out my brain).

Asshole
Bitch
Retard
Slut
Freak
Loser
Pussy

Words.  It never fails to amaze me how we allow people the power to insult us with the stupidest of comments. Racist remarks. Sexist jokes. Character attacks. I mean... they're just words.  If you break it down, it's really the intent to hurt that stings.  Tone is very important.

Take "cupcake", for example.  It's a cute little word that makes me eat everything in sight.  What if I turn to you, though (in rage mode), and shout "YOU FUCKING CUPCAKE!"  You'd be insulted, but why?  Cupcake?  Cupcakes are delicious. No... it all has to do with intent.   My tone was full of aggression.  If I had been joking around and meant no harm... different outcome.

Let's say it is meant as an insult... whatever term was used.  It says more about them than it does you.  It's a reflection on their maturity.  To gossip, judge and/or slander is to show weakness - a need to tear others down to massage our own ego.  Insecurity.  It's sad, actually.

Our actions do not define us.  You know who you are; they don't.  We are the sum of our parts.  We're saints and sinners.  Don't allow yourself to be labeled based on a single snapshot.  Don't.

Let it roll off.  Karma will take care of the rest.

Very true.

At times, even though words are just words, I do feel as though they contain power...if they're worthy.

Nice post!!

They do; you're right. When coupled with the wrong tone... they can be quite dangerous.

Thanks for stopping on by... :)

I opened my youtube account this morning to find the words "loser, faggot" sent to me in a private note. I replied, "blocked, bitch." funny, they're just words but replying back made me feel better.

Appollom... Your comment reminded of me something.

Excuse me while I go off on a tangent. I think it's human nature to use whatever words you think will wound the most ... when striking back. What do I mean? I remember when Michael Richards (the comedian) shouted the n-word at hecklers. My first reaction was ... isn't he a comedian? Shouldn't he be able to deal with that? Then I thought he was a racist. Or Mel Gibson and his comments about Jews. While Richards and Gibson might just be racists... maybe they were just being human and trying to fight fire with fire. It's wrong, of course. There is no excuse for bad behavior, but beyond tone... is the person truly full of hate or just in self-defense mode? I would have said a lot more than "blocked, bitch." :)

It's one thing to step into someone else's space and fuck with them for no reason; it's another to fight back. Why send you a note like that? Ridiculous. People are diseased.

I AGREE. I take ownership of words. I am a slut, whore, bitch, cunt, pussy. To me, those are GOOD things.

My little daughter says "thank you" when someone calls her "weird."

She's allowed to say ANY word in my house, including the ones I listed above. Except one. There is one awful word she is not allowed to say EVER.

That word is "bored."
