Invasion of Privacy

Ever since the would-be crotch bomber tried to blow up that flight on Christmas Day, body scanners are back in the news. I don't get it. I don't see how it's even remotely controversial. What the hell do I care if a body scan reveals that I'm overweight or that a screener can make out my 12" love gun (hello ladies). If it's going to help prevent a hijacking or suicide bombing, feel free to stick a camera up my ass while you're at it (massage and chocolates first, please).
While I'm on the topic... that goes for wiretapping, too. What are we afraid they're going to hear? Are we worried that Homeland Security is going to catch us having phone sex and post the audio clips to YouTube? Do we think an NSA agent is going to be on the other end of the tap, saying "DUDE!!! Come here! You have GOT to listen to this freaky shit!" Jesus. If the government ever had a jones to hear my raunchy conversations, fine; I'll publish a schedule to make it easy to follow. Look... if it's going to help protect the country to ferret out sleeper cells, do what you need to do. Tap into every cell phone in the nation. I'm fine with it. By the way, if you capture said terrorist and waterboarding is a proven way to get folks to talk, go Jack Bauer on them. You have my permission. In matters of national security, FUCK the ACLU!

As a frequent overseas and national traveler, and as I write this from Kuwait at the moment (visiting the hubby who is working over here for 2 years) and will be once again boarding a plane in 4 days, I also am not upset about the body scanners. Even if they were to show a little more than they actually do...so what? My safety and the safety of others far outweighs a little bit of self consciousness or modesty in my opinion. From what I have seen and heard, those that scream the loudest against this sort of thing, are the ones that rarely if ever board a plane in the first place. Just my humble opinion. Thanks. Poppet
I voted for Obama and can't stand Fox News. I'm all for civil liberties and constitutional rights, but we don't live in a world where the krauts or red coats are the enemy. This isn't Mayberry. Terrorists are blowing up planes, bombing hotels and looking to release poisonous gas in our subways. They want to kill as many innocent people as they can. It's not the time or place for a discussion on "Big Brother" or privacy.
Personally... I care more about my safety than I do about my rights. This isn't abuse of power; it's doing what needs to be done to help protect us from crazy lunatics. I remember when that American kid was caned over in Singapore for spraying graffiti; I wanted to cane him myself. If you're not doing anything wrong, you shouldn't worry ... unless it's sexual and involves goats, but... I'm willing to give up a few luxuries.
