The Kennedy Center Tribute - Stewart/Sting

Well... part of it.  Jon Stewart and Sting... minus Vedder (see below) et al.  Jon Stewart grew up idolizing Bruce, so... it's a touching tribute.  I love the line about Bob Dylan and James Brown.  What you didn't see (that I loved) was Ben Stiller honoring Robert De Niro earlier.  He couldn't help himself; he stopped and talked about having seen Bruce at a show in 1980 ... that it changed his life.  "You're a god!", he said.... before moving on.  Even De Niro is a huge fan.

As for Stewart's speech...  the video cuts out just before he said this: "I believe that Bruce Springsteen is an unprecedented combination of lyrical eloquence, musical mastery and sheer unbridled, unadulterated joy.  Exuberance in the act of telling stories so familiar, stories that have never been told so well or so uniquely. And I know he's hating this right now. He's a modest man, and he doesn't like sitting there in that little box, with his little suit, wearing a little rainbow dreamcatcher or whatever they have on there.  He doesn't like it."

He continued (after the clip above)... "It was about stories of lives that could be changed. And that the only status that you could fail to achieve is the status quo. The only thing, the only failure in life was not to make the effort to change our station. And it resonated with me because, and I say this truly to him... I would not be here, God knows, not even in this business if it were not for the inspirational words and music of Bruce Springsteen."  I couldn't agree more.  That's the impact Springsteen's had on so many of us.  In fact, at the 7:07 mark... Edward Norton (the actor) looks up and nods.  He was asked what was going through his mind. He said... "I thought... this is exactly how it should be; no one deserves this more than Bruce."
